Feeding
Children Better
ConAgra's Feeding
Children Better (FCB) Program has partnered with
the Center on Hunger and Poverty and America's Second
Harvest, to launch a multi-year initiative to strengthen
emergency food programs and to protect the short-term
nutritional needs of low-income children. FCB is providing
significant financial support and technical skill to
strengthen the infrastructure and efficiency of food
banks across the nation. ConAgra also funds the development
of Kids' Cafes, local facilities serving children nutritious
meals in protective environments under the overall jurisdiction
of America's Second Harvest. The Center on Hunger and
Poverty provides expert assistance to the latter endeavor,
and helps establish nutritional education programs and
evaluation assessments.
kNOw Hunger
kNOw
Hunger is a curriculum that gives students a way
to understand and address hunger in their communities,
their state, and the nation. Developed in conjunction
with the Gerda & Kurt Klein Foundation, it facilitates
knowledge about the extent and causes of hunger in the
United States, and enables students to act on what they
learn through a companion service learning program.
kNOw Hunger meets the specifications of the National
Council on Social Studies, and can be used online or
downloaded free of charge. A companion Hunger
Service Learning Program integrates community service
with academic study to enrich learning, teach civic
responsibility, and strengthen communities.
Gerda and Kurt
Klein Foundation
The
Gerda and Kurt Klein Foundation is a public, non-profit
organization which helps young people understand their
world and translate that knowledge into community service.
The Foundation now has a six unit hunger curriculum
- kNOw
Hunger- for teachers and others to use with youngsters
ages 12-17. The curriculum offers a parallel program
of community service to enable youth to help end hunger
in their communities. The Klein Foundation partners
with other national organizations to carry out its mission,
including the Center on Hunger and Poverty and the Feinstein
Foundation. |
